About
Africarmen is a gorgeous dance production based on Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen. Set in a modern-day oil-rich military dictatorship in Africa, Africarmen is a story of desire, deceit and corruption. Members of the local village live under harsh conditions, but Carmen dreams of escape and a better life. Bawren Tavaziva’s powerful choreography is performed through contemporary and African dance.
“Tavaziva’s facility for devising hot, liquid motion is indisputable”
The Times
"The dancers are dynamite, but they detonate on the surface, strewing the stage with hormones and energy. It goes down a storm with its audience."
The Guardian
