Dance City are delighted to announce their partnership with four Gateshead primary schools and Gateshead Council to bring inspirational dance performance piece ‘Flying Free on Gateshead Quay’ to The Great Exhibition of the North on Saturday the 30th of June.
Over 100 children across Fellside, Parochial and Carhill Primary schools have been collaborating with Gateshead based Dance City artists over the last two months to learn and master a custom routine created for the occasion.
The choreography, composed by Dance City artists Cheryl Day, Lissie Connor and Rebecca Hunt, follows the theme of ‘angels and birds’ drawing inspiration from the iconic Angel of the North’s 20th anniversary as well as the the Quayside’s resident Kittiwake population, the only inland colony of this endangered bird in the UK.
Performances will take place outside The Sage Gateshead at 11.45am and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art at 12.15pm and 12.30pm. Make sure to pop down and show your support for these budding young dancers!
