In partnership with Tyne and Wear Sport, Dance City has received funding for the last three years to deliver Dance within their Sportivate programme, the key objectives of which are:
To ensure the delivery of high quality activities which will contribute towards the target of retaining (attending at least five of the six sessions) 2328 children and young adults aged 11 to 25 across Tyne & Wear in Year 5. To provide a programme of activities that enable and encourage participants to continue their participation in sport following the Sportivate sessions.
Through the programme, Dance City are able to offer 6 weeks (6 x 1 hr.) of free dance sessions for groups aged between 11-25yrs. These sessions take place April-June, June-Aug, Sep-Oct, Nov-Dec, and Jan-March. We have secured funding for 8 blocks in total for the year up until March 2016 (2 in each of the blocks above). Classes are an introduction to a mixture of dance styles, including Creative and Contemporary, providing groups of ‘inactive’ young people the opportunity to take part in lively, energetic dance whilst also encouraging them to be creative, work in teams and individually and to feel confident enough to develop their own ideas.
We are keen to develop links between new groups across Tyne and Wear which this project may be able to support. If you would like more information please get in touch.
