About the class:

A fast paced contemporary technique class inspired by Ceyda Tanc Dance’s signature movement vocabulary. We will flow through an extended warm up, travelling phrases and professional company repertory.

Led by British-Turkish choreographer, Ceyda Tanc, the company creates athletic contemporary dance influenced by Tanc’s Turkish heritage. Expect world music, rhythmic phrases and folk inspired steps.

Ceyda Tanc Dance, led by British-Turkish Choreographer, Ceyda Tanc, creates dynamic contemporary dance works with influence of Ceyda’s Turkish heritage. Utilising the virtuoso movements of male Turkish dancers with an all-female company, Ceyda’s unique style combines athletic contemporary movement with folk dance and other global styles, conveying striking shapes and a strong yet sensual energy. 

This innovative way of working with Turkish folk dance subverts traditional gender roles as a platform to address global gender issues and inequalities. Ceyda’s work seeks to challenge traditional gender representation in dance and promote the intersection of cultures as a medium for social change. She draws on ritual and ceremony to create work that is unapologetically feminist.
