About
Alexander's recent production 8 Minutes took audiences on a breathtaking journey to the sun. Known for his ground breaking use of technology, Alexander considers what it means to be human in the era of big data. Digital technology, now a seemingly indispensable part of modern life, is radically transforming how we experience and act in the world.
Overflow considers how our desires, fantasies and vulnerabilities are powerfully influenced by social platforms and explores what lurks beneath our compulsions to check, share and like. Featuring a dazzling kinetic light sculpture by Children of the Light with programming by Luca Biada, lighting by Guy Hoare, costumes and artefacts by award-winning designer, Ana Rajcevic and an original score by Rival Consoles, whose music has featured on the Netflix series Black Mirror.
Commissioned by Sadler’s Wells, and supported by Arts Council England, Cockayne – Grants for the Arts, the London Community Foundation, MA Scène Nationale-Pays de Montbéliard, PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund for Organisations, Bonnie Bird New Choreography Fund and DanceEast. Alexander is New Wave Associate at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
“Whitley’s choreography is sinuous, sensuous and elemental” Evening Standard
“Whitley discovers a new way of designing contemporary dance which offers boundless, exciting opportunities for the future.” broadwayworld.com
