Children are at the heart of Dance City. As well as high quality school packages, children can take part in a dance class, enjoy one of our great workshops or dance camps and see inspiring dance performances in our theatre. We encourage visits and participation by children with additional support needs.
SCHOOLS
We offer a fantastic dance package for schools allowing young people to CREATE, PERFORM and CELEBRATE dance as part of a curriculum and extra-curricular offer, whilst offering teachers the opportunity to further their understanding of how to teach high quality dance lessons through tailored CPD sessions, helping to build confidence and idea generation.
Our delivery ensures that all young people are:

Schools Packages
IGNITE
IGNITE brings dance to you step by step and is guaranteed to get your young people and teachers moving, learning, having fun and engaged in dance. Delivered by our highly skilled, qualified dance artists, and tailored to the specific needs of your school.
The package offers high quality dance lessons taught by professional artists which will develop physical, stylistic, interpretative and creative skills.
What’s included?
Curriculum Delivery
Delivery would take place over 12 weeks, working with x2 classes per week tailored to your school’s curriculum. Lessons are progressive taking children and teachers through a scheme of work.
Extra-Curricular Delivery
Delivery would take place over 12 weeks, working with a group of children from any key stage. We would develop a piece of choreography and assist in the sharing/celebration of the piece. The dance style and theme of the piece can be tailored to your school.
Teacher CPD (Continued Professional Development)
90min-2hour Twilight Session.
A practical session providing school teachers and teaching assistants with key tools to help deliver imaginative and progressive dance lessons, linking to your creative curriculum.
DANCE IN A DAY
With our Dance in a Day packages your young people will work with one of our Dance City Artists to develop their movement and choreographic skills piece. We can deliver this package in two ways – either in your school setting, or at the fantastic Dance City building in Newcastle city centre.
These flexible packages can be tailored to both primary and secondary schools and are available to book throughout the academic year, with specific topic choices for each term from Divali, international dance day, world book day, mental health awareness day, world music day, anti-bullying week and many more.

If you book a schools package we will include a FREE workshop with our CAT team.
This workshop provides a taste of the training available on our CAT programme – The Centre for Advanced Training – and is suitable for Years 5 – 10. Dance City’s CAT is part of the Department for Education’s Music and Dance Scheme offering Contemporary and Street Dance training to young people across the North East.
CLASSES & WORKSHOPS
We have so many different children’s classes to choose from in many different styles of dance including ballet, breakdance, contemporary and hip hop. Dance is a creative, fun and physical activity that is great for boosting self confidence and co-ordination. At Dance City we don’t teach grades or exams and young dancers learn by age group rather than levels.

DANCE CAMPS
Whether your child already dances or is a complete beginner all they need is passion and enthusiasm to get moving and have fun during our holiday Dance camps.
Dance camps take place in the beautiful Dance City venue in Newcastle, in professional standard dance studios and a 240 seat theatre – a safe, friendly and inspiring environment. The teaching staff are all experienced dance artists who will support your child to have the best experience – growing not only in dance skills but in confidence and social skills too.
TRAINING ACADEMY
The Dance City Centre for Advanced Training is part of the Department for Education’s Music and Dance Scheme offering a contemporary dance training programme for young people from the North East region who are 10 – 16 years of age. Entry to the CAT is by audition only, and we are looking for young people who demonstrate exceptional talent or potential in contemporary dance.
