In support of their Pepperland run at Newcastle Theatre Royal from 26 – 27 April, Brooklyn based contemporary dance company Mark Morris Dance Group will be leading a dance workshop for Dance City’s Get Moving class, for individuals with Parkinson’s disease on Friday 26th April 11.15am- 12.15pm.

This class is a specially designed for people with Parkinson’s and their assistants, friends, families and carers, and run by a specially trained tutor. During the class participants will be encouraged to express themselves through dance in a supportive, fun and friendly environment. The class will help to develop confidence through movement, and to temporarily relieve some of symptoms of Parkinson’s in everyday life, with participants experiencing a sense of enjoyment and well-being through dance.

In Dance for PD classes, participants explore movement and music in ways that are enjoyable, stimulating and creative. Born from the idea that people with Parkinson’s benefit from the insight and artistic techniques and methods dancers use to guide their bodies and minds, Dance for PD classes invite participants and care partners to experience the grace, fluidity, and power of dance in a creative, social, joyful, and supportive environment.

This internationally-acclaimed, multiple award-winning program, first developed collaboratively by the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group in 2001, is appropriate for anyone with Parkinson’s at all levels of ability and mobility.

Don’t miss the Mark Morris Dance Group at Newcastle Theatre Royal

Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) one of the most revered contemporary dance companies performing today, will be arriving at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal with Pepperland, Mark Morris’ unique tribute to of one of the best-selling albums of all time: The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017.

In this exuberant new dance work, visually on the cusp of Carnaby Street and Woodstock, Pepperland teases out the album’s colourfully avant-garde heart and eccentric charm, and resounds with all the ingenuity, musicality and wit for which the Mark Morris Dance Group is known.

A bold new score from Ethan Iverson featuring six idiosyncratic, jazzy reinventions of the original songs, including A Day in the Life, When I’m Sixty-Four, Penny Lane, A Day in the Life, With a Little Help From My Friends and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club, is performed live by a remarkable seven-piece band.

Don’t miss this “gorgeously entertaining and witty tribute to the classic Beatles album” (The Guardian), hailed as “truly joyous; a brilliant homage to one of the great rock albums” (Daily Telegraph).

Performances are Friday 26 – Saturday 27 April.
