As a passionate learner, I invest in lengthy periods of research and theoretical frameworks that support the pillars of my artistic practice and my role as a community advocate. My skills and interests are diverse and are visible in the work I create and the communities I converse with and am involved in: Focused enterprises are inherently interdisciplinary, I am often in environments and situations whereby artists, musicians and performers come together to discuss and develop new ideas that lead to the delivery of live performances, educational workshops, training opportunities and international exchange.
Ben Jeans Houghton
Ben Jeans Houghton’s multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installation, film, drawing, painting, writing & performance. Through these media he investigates magic; the art of transformation and its methodologies, technologies, agencies and implications, through art-praxis, informed by astrological, philosophical and metaphysical perspectives. The work encourages an exoteric (explicit) remembrance of esoteric (implicit) and occulted (hidden) metaphysics and methodologies, whilst dismantling the monopoly of the materialist paradigm, towards the reinvigoration of contemporary creative-tools, for the forming of positive futures based on mutual-flourishing in right-relation with a more-than-human cosmos.
Ben’s work has been exhibited internationally in Africa, Germany, Greece, Japan, South Korea and the USA and in the UK with organisations such as CCA – Glasgow, Workplace Gallery – Gateshead, Gymnasium Gallery – Berwick, Bloc Projects – Sheffield, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art – Gateshead, Generator Projects – Dundee, Whitstable Biennale – Whitstable, Space Inbetween Gallery – London, BFI – London, Circa Projects – Newcastle, NGCA – Sunderland and Channel Four – UK.
