Early Stage Commission – Would You Adam & Eve It?
Society of Strays are interested in people and how we function in the face of adversity, where the only choice for humanity is to ascend or descend.
They comprise of collaborators who have worked successfully in the UK dance sector for over a decade, touring internationally within dance and operatic societies including award-winning companies and works by; Protein Dance, BalletLorent, Bgroup, Riccardo Buscarini, Curious Seed, Simon McBurney, DNO, Joan Cleville Dance, Zoielogic, Royal Opera House, WSO, Glyndebourne, Tete a Tete and KSO. They demonstrate a diverse range of skills that explore cross art collaborations and boundary breaking work within that.
Conceived by Andrew Gardiner and Donna Lennard, Would You Adam & Eve It? takes a look at humankind’s ability to both create and annihilate. A mishmash of science and theology, the work reimagines Genesis with AI humanoids promising dark comedy riddled with human contradictions. Themes of technological evolution vs human devolution provide the main field of exploration.
A series of poetic, absurd, humorous vignettes of choreography, voice and new writing. WYAAEI reflects on the obsessive need for the perfect creation told within the 24hr timeframe of the birth and death of a Mayfly.
