‘In 2014 myself and dramaturg Kai Green, whilst in residence at Battersea Arts Centre, collaborated to create MADRE. Since its creation it has toured to Dance City, Dance Base Edinburgh, Yorkshire Dance, and TripSpace London and will play in Manchester early this year. Now we want to continue exploring this idea and deepening our collaboration by beginning creation of a new piece, PADRE. We will use the week at Dance City to begin researching physically and create a basis of material that will be our starting point for PADRE.
MADRE focussed on the feminine, and the experience of the female within this mafia world. Within PADRE we want to focus more on the man; to explore and challenge the construct of masculinity and forms of gender within a world/culture where patriarchy, both religious and familial, is key.’
