Spotlight on DC Teacher

6/11/08

Professor Pelicano was born and grew up in Salvador, Brazil and has been playing Capoeira since the age of 12. He gained his teaching qualification of 'professor' in 1995 and since then has reached the highest level of professor, with only the 'Mestre' grading left to achieve. He has lived and worked in Newcastle as a Capoeira teacher since 1999.

In our classes we practice the regional style of Capoeira created by Mestre Bimba, whose legacy Filhos de Bimba seeks to continue. We follow his teaching method, devised to make it easy for beginners to learn basic moves quickly, from which they can develop their Capoeira game.

Capoeira is a sociable and enjoyable way to stay in shape: the classes help to improve and maintain your fitness, balance, coordination and flexibility, but it’s not all about sport; you’ll also be introduced to Afro-Brazilian music and culture and may even pick up a few words of Portuguese on the way!
