New Artistic Director Anthony Baker Commencement Date 15th March

Dance City is delighted to announce that Anthony Baker has been appointed as its new Artistic Director and will begin his new role on Monday 15th March. Anthony starts his new post in March and joins the organisation, based on Temple Street in Newcastle, from his role as Artistic Director and Chief Executive at DanceDigital in Essex. Anthony, however, is no stranger to the region:

“I am thrilled to be joining Dance City. Coming from the North East I appreciate the huge changes and developments there over the past 10 years and I am delighted to be part of that process”.

Anthony will be working very closely with Finance and Operations Manager Ian McKeown. Ian has worked at the organisation for seventeen years during the eras of Janet Archer and Penny Rae, and is eager to begin working with Anthony so together they can take Dance City even further forward:

“Like Anthony I too am thrilled that he is joining Dance City. I’m confident that the enthusiasm he has shown together with his experience gained at Dance Digital will be of great value to Dance City".

Ian has seen vast changes in his time, including the development of the new £7.6m Dance City building opened in 2005. A statement that demonstrated the company’s future vision and ambition to programme, develop and support dance in the North East. A vision which Anthony whole-heartedly shares:

“Dance City is an important agency for change and development of dance in the North East, and through supporting artists, exciting programming, solid partnerships and in its extensive education and community activity it can continue build a strong and thriving environment for dance into the future”.
